Tom and Darlene McCalmont brought a decade of solar project experience to the founding of McCalmont Engineering in 2009, driven by a shared belief that engineering should be both innovative and grounded in real‑world constructability. Their approach established the high standards our clients know us for today.
Though Darlene has retired, the principles she
helped shape remain central to our culture and our commitment to exceptional design.

Tom McCalmont
CEO & Cofounder
Tom McCalmont is CEO and cofounder of McCalmont Engineering and Paired Power. He has over 25 years of solar, storage, and EV charging experience. Prior to that, Tom was CEO and cofounder of Regrid Power, one of California’s earliest and most successful solar installation companies.
Tom has a demonstrated track record of creatively applying new technology to solving real world customer problems. He earned his MS degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and both Sc.D. and BS degrees from Muskingum University. Tom holds 18 U.S. patents and is a licensed Professional Engineer, a charter NABCEP-certified Solar PV Installer, and an EVITP-certified licensed electrical/solar contractor in California.

McCalmont Engineering History
Darlene and Tom McCalmont founded McCalmont Engineering in 2009 with the objective of capitalizing on their years of solar experience to create the nation’s leading solar design and engineering company. Ever since, McCalmont has been providing knowledgeable and experienced clean energy design and engineering services for large scale projects (commercial, industrial, and utility scale). McCalmont delivers complete renewable energy project designs including solar power plants, microgrids, energy storage systems, and electric vehicle charger infrastructure. McCalmont Engineering is licensed in over 40 U.S. states.
