Utility Scale
Value-engineered solutions for utility scale solar PV, energy storage, and microgrid projects.

Full-Scope Engineering for Utility-Scale Solar & Storage
McCalmont Engineering delivers complete electrical engineering for utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage plants — from preliminary site viability analysis and interconnection studies through PE-stamped construction documents. We design every part of the system in-house, including DC and AC engineering, medium-voltage interconnections, and substation design up to 34.5 kV. Our team has engineered projects as large as 800 MW across the country, and our professional engineers are licensed in more than 40 states.
Medium-Voltage Interconnections to 34.5 kV
Few engineering firms design medium-voltage interconnections in-house. We do — including overhead and underbuild line design, protection-system engineering, and cable and equipment specification up to 34.5 kV, all the way to the substation point of demarcation.
ETAP Electrical Studies & Grounding Analysis
Our engineers perform the full suite of power-system studies — coordination, short circuit, arc flash, load flow, and cable thermal ampacity — using ETAP software, plus grounding studies with WinIGS including step-and-touch-potential analysis in compliance with IEEE and NEC standards.

Utility-Scale Engineering FAQ
Can you serve as Engineer-of-Record (EOR)?
Yes. We provide Engineer-of-Record services and PE-stamped plans for utility-scale solar and storage projects nationwide.
Do you design the medium-voltage and substation scope?
Yes. We design all parts of the system in-house, including medium-voltage interconnections and substation and utility-line design up to 34.5 kV.
What software do you use for electrical studies?
We use ETAP for coordination, short circuit, arc flash, load flow, and ampacity studies, and WinIGS for grounding studies.
